Ceremony Enhancements

Symbolic Additions

  • Handfasting

This traditional Celtic ritual involves gently binding your hands together with coloured ribbons or cords to symbolise your commitment and connection. It’s where the phrase “tying the knot” comes from, and it’s a beautiful way to reflect your bond in a visual and meaningful way.

  • Unity Candle

In this simple but symbolic ritual, two candles (often lit by family members) represent your individual lives. Later in the ceremony, you light a central “unity” candle together to symbolise your new life as a couple. This can be especially nice if you want to acknowledge both families coming together.

  • Unity Sand

individual lives blending into one, and the final keepsake can be displayed as a reminder of the day.

  • Loving Cup

A nod to Celtic tradition, this ritual involves sharing a drink from a ceremonial cup during the ceremony — often wine, but it can be anything that suits you. It symbolises partnership, celebration, and unity, and can be a nice moment of pause and connection within the ceremony.

  • The Rose Exchange

Often used as a first gift to one another as a married couple, this simple gesture involves each partner giving the other a single rose. It symbolises love, respect, and a promise to continue giving — not just gifts, but care and attention — throughout your marriage.

  • Tree Planting

This symbolic ritual involves the couple planting a tree or plant together during the ceremony — often in a pot that they can take home and continue to care for. It represents growth, rootedness, and the nurturing of your relationship over time.
